About the Series

As part of our EI 10 events, this virtual Speaker Series provided the opportunity to explore pertinent issues currently affecting our LGBT older adult communities. Experts and advocates in the fields of aging, health, and LGBT rights joined us for a series of virtual conversations on topics including COVID-19, health disparities, racial and economic justice, access to care, mental health, and LGBT aging policy. Please enjoy the recordings of these presentations below!

COVID & Health Equity

Dr. Nancy Brisbon (Mazzoni Center), Dr. Traci Trice (Jefferson Health), and Anna Keith (PA Health & Wellness) join us to discuss issues of health equity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our panelists explore the ways that the coronavirus has highlighted existing health disparities, including in our LGBTQ communities. They discuss the efforts taking place within the healthcare system to ensure better access and outcomes for people of all races, incomes, ages, genders, and sexual orientations.

Aging & Access to Care

Najja Orr (Philadelphia Corporation for Aging), Diane Menio (Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly), and Teresa Osborne (AARP Pennsylvania) join us in this second Speaker Series panel to discuss issues of access to care for LGBT older adults. Our panelists address topics related to mental health, food security, transportation, caregiving, and the long-term care system.

LGBT Aging Advocacy

Celena Morrison (Philadelphia Office of LGBT Affairs), Rafael Alvarez Febo (Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs), and Aaron Tax (SAGE) present in our final Speaker Series program on LGBT Aging Advocacy. Our panelists cover legislative and advocacy initiatives at the local, state, and federal level to better support LGBT older adults. The discussion highlights recent policy victories, ongoing advocacy efforts, and future legislative priorities.
