The Doctor Is In (Virtually!): Skin Cancer & Summer Safety
June 15, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
FreeThere are many reasons to enjoy the summer months, but the hot and sunny summer days also bring about unique health risks. Skin issues can be particularly prevalent during the summer due to the increased sun exposure. Most skin cancers result from too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light that comes from the sun. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, accounting for more diagnoses each year than all other cancers combined! The summer heat also carries additional health risks including heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat stroke. Heat-related illnesses can be particularly dangerous for older adults, in some cases even being fatal.
Join the Elder Initiative and Jefferson Health for this month’s “Doctor Is In” webinar to discuss skin cancer and summer safety. We’ll learn how to protect our skin, especially during the summer, as well as other precautions we should take during the high temperatures and frequent sun of the summer months!
